The very word wapas makes me feel guilty.I know she feels more at home with her son-still I want her to stay with me longer.

    I have always had this question about addressing elders in singular. Not even sure if its the closeness one share..!

    Definitely Veena, In fact all of us at home call parents in singular, Amma Baa or Appa Baa, becos I personally feel aa athmeeyathe and baandhavya that exists between parents and children is lost if we try to say banni-hogi…and definetely my dad would hate it if I called him Banni-Hogi! 🙂

    AMMA-nanage nannade aada extension-though biologically its the other way round
    So ekavachana is perfect.
    I use ekavachana for my ajji too.
    My son uses it for his appa,amma and ajji.Infact he calls us by our names many times.We like it.

    hmm… I have noticed this in many families…
    I am not used to this one.. its not the age factor but I don’t know what…
    Its the way we are used to, I think… sometime I address my younger brother as ‘yenaNNa en samachaara’, thats with affection.. May be I could relate it that way..
