Ugadi in Goa is called Gudi padva

Gudi means a flag and padva means the first day(prathama/padya)

A gudi in the form of an inverted tambige is hoisted on a stick. The stick is decorated with mango leaves and a new  orange -coloured piece of cloth. It is hoisted on top of the house.

The people say that the flag is to celebrate the return of the victorious Maratha warriors in the era of Chatrapati Shivaji.

Ofcourse a sumptuous feast follows.

And the business world announces all sorts of discounts 🙂
